So, in a couple of days i'll be off to visit the pregnant daughter in England, along with her properly Brit husband and adorably Brit boys. Will baby number three be another boy? Will it surprise us all and be a girl? Only time and a cesarean will tell...
i am sneaking in some little pink clothing, just in case--it's been killing me not to be able to pre-shop here where i can afford things (the exchange rate is the worst it's been in years and years--a British pound is worth over two dollars now!!) If i look at a price in a store there and think, "Oh, 3 pounds, that's not too bad--" i have to remind myself that 3 pounds means 6+ of my American dollars.
And that's only one of the things i need to adjust to there--the other is the fact that it's 8 hours ahead there, so when it's a lovely afternoon in California, it's time for bed in England.
And then they do that thing where their degrees are different--Celsius rather than Fahrenheit. This means that when you set the washing machine wash temperature, you should take that into consideration, or you end up shrinking wool sweaters. Don't ask how i know.
But in that backword time world with funny degrees and worthless dollars, i'll get to see my American girl with the accent, and hear those two cute blond boys call her "Mummy" in that perfectly English way, and hear about the things in their daddy's work day that made him "exceedingly cross." And it will be worth the journey!

Have fun in England! Eat some chocolate HobNobs for me, and get as much baby cuddling time in as possible!
How absolutely wonderful for you. We too have a daughter (JD's youngest,my step-daughter,making her Tersie's step-sister)based in England. Her husband also is a Brit and works for Conoco. Right now they are in Abu Dhabi while Nick over sees the construction of a refinery there. It cracks us up when Angela says these little things like "It is 'hotting up' over here".
We haven't made the trip across that big puddle to visit and won't be planning on any time soon. At least not until they move back to England.
They have a home that they keep in England since Nick's job requires that they travel a lot. They plan on some day retiring there. This of course does not make her Daddy happy, but she is all grown up and entitled to make her own decisions. She dearly loves England and that is important when considering where you are going to live out your golden years.

Oh trust me, i'm all about the chocolate HobNobs and baby cuddling!! i must admit i always use the visits to them as a reason to try all the different "biscuits" and chocolates... ;-)
Jo--i have to admit it's a bit easier for me to get to England since my husband works for United Airlines in San Francisco-- Boy do i know all about that not wanting them to move that far!! And we even made her promise NOT to fall in love with anybody when she went to school over there--like that helped! LOL We do love the guy, though, they married while he was still studying to be a general practitioner doctor, which he is now--
Tell the U clan "hello" from us! I sure would love to see them, and maybe when the kids can travel a little better (at least two more years!)we'll make a trip. Congratulations on the future grandkid, too. Newborns are such an amazing thing!
Oh, and we better get a report on whether you have a grandson or a granddaughter!

Just know how much you will be missed HERE while you're gone!!! I am quite jealous of you being able to go over there so often, you know. One of these days.....
And now I will have to wait a WHOLE MONTH before we can mess around with all your newest toys, too - boo! hoo!
